What type of church is The Rock?
We’re a nondenominational church, affiliated with the Evangelical Free Forest Lakes District. What that means is that we aren’t Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, or anything else. Instead, we’re independent, with our own set of beliefs that align with the Evangelical Free Churches of America. (Be sure to check out “What We Believe” page for more information.)
What is your teaching style?
We use what Pastor Barry calls a “topical-expository” style. We deal with specific topics – for example, “Communication” – and then we look at a passage in the Bible to see what God has to say on the subject. All of our teaching, though, focuses on a practical application. In other words, how do we live out what the Bible teaches?
What type of worship music do you sing?
Honestly? We sing a little bit of…everything! We have Worship Teams that love hymns, we have others that do contemporary praise, and we even have a banjo player who likes Southern Gospel. Each week is a different experience as our various teams lead worship!
Anything else we should know about the Sunday service?
Yes! We believe that God’s Word is our source of authority and inspiration. Because of that, we believe in faithfully preaching the Bible, offering a salvation message, and providing a “Take Home” that gives simple steps to allow Christians to put their faith into practice.
What translation of the Bible do you use?
We use the New International Version (NIV) for the church. (If you use a different translation, though, it’s okay!) Pastor Barry often shares both the Greek and Hebrew meanings, along with the cultural context, to help everyone understand what the writers were trying to say and how it applies to us today.
Do you offer Sunday School?
We offer Sunday School for elementary-age students. As we get volunteers trained, we hope to offer additional classes for all ages!
Is your church accessible?
Our building is fully accessible. In fact, we meet in a renovated factory that was built to accommodate people with differing abilities!
Do you offer Bible Studies?
We DO offer Bible Studies! These change from season to season, and not all are in the church, so we’d like to encourage you to check out our “Calendar” page for more information.
Is there counseling available?
Pastor Barry will meet with people to do individual, couples, or family counseling. For couples and families, we can meet at the church facility. For youth under 18, we meet at the Family Restaurant in Tomahawk or in the Kitchen at the church if a parent is present. There is no charge for Pastoral Counseling, but it is dependent on Pastor Barry’s schedule.
What other programs does The Rock Church offer?
We’re glad you asked! We’re constantly changing our programs, and we offer Community Education classes, American Red Cross trainings, mental health workshops, a Day Camp program, and community “fun days”! Be sure to check out our “Calendar” page for upcoming events!
